Ohio State recognized six Buckeyes with player of the game honors for their standout performances against the Golden Gophers.

Quarterback Julian Sayin, wide receivers Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss and Quincy Porter as well as cornerback Davison Ibinosun, and linebacker Sonny Styles were named Ohio State’s players of the game in the Buckeyes 42-3 win over Minnesota Saturday.

The Buckeyes’ offensive players of the game, Sayin and Tate, connected nine times for 183 yards and a score, earning the junior wideout career highs in catches and receiving yards. Sayin finished his outing against Minnesota completing 23 of 27 passes for 328 yards and three scores, including a 44-yard touchdown pass to Tate in the second quarter that the sophomore quarterback perfectly placed in the endzone.

On defense, Styles and Igbinosun set the tone for Ohio State, earning player of the game honors while helping the Buckeyes hold the Golden Gophers scoreless for the final 52 minutes. The senior captain, Styles, led the team with eight tackles (four solo) and added one tackle. Igbinosun, on the other hand, ended a solid showcase with five tackles (four solo). The senior cornerback was on fire for the Buckeyes early, taking down Minnesota offensive players three times on their opening possession.

Inniss earned special teams player of the game honors after returning two punts for a total of 10 yards. However, a rare trick play by Ohio State is likely what earned Inniss the recognition on special teams. Midway through the third quarter, Inniss fielded a punt and took multiple steps forward before slinging the football across the field to cornerback Lorenzo Styles Jr. who took the backwards lateral 36 yards to the Minnesota 20 yard line.

Porter joins Inniss as the second special teams player of the game. The freshman receiver hauled in one pass for 15 yards in the victory and played a crucial role on the Buckeyes’ return unit.
