Bruce Thornton has received all-conference honors again.
For the second straight season, the senior guard was named second-team All-Big Ten. Both the coaches of the conference and the media had him on the second team.
Thornton is averaging career highs of 20.1 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game, while dishing out 3.9 assists per game. He did so playing in each of the Buckeyes’ 31 regular-season contests.
He’s been more efficient from the field in his senior season than in any of his other years at Ohio State, shooting at a 55.8 percent clip on the way to becoming the all-time leading scorer for the Buckeyes. He passed Dennis Hopson in the regular season finale against Indiana on March 7, doing so with a three-pointer right before halftime.
His strong season has helped the Buckeyes to a 20-11 record, the eighth seed in the Big Ten tournament, and what seems to be a likely spot in the NCAA Tournament, which would be the first time in his college career that Ohio State would make the Big Dance if it is included in the 68-team bracket.
As a sophomore, Thornton received third-team All-Big Ten honors, so this is his third time as an all-conference player.
Sophomore guard John Mobley Jr. was an All-Big ten honorable mention by the media.
In his second season with the team, Mobley has averaged 15.9 points per game, 2.8 assists and 2.4 rebounds, shooting 42.4 percent from beyond the arc, which leads all players in the Big Ten. That mark is 18th in the country.
