The Buckeye offensive line is starting to take shape.
Head coach Ryan Day gave multiple updates regarding Ohio State’s offensive line Monday at his press conference, notably naming Austin Siereveld the Buckeyes’ starting left tackle.
The announcement solidifies Siereveld’s position change from guard to tackle, a switch the veteran offensive lineman worked on throughout the offseason.
A junior from Liberty Township, Ohio, Siereveld appeared in all 16 games and made six starts during the Buckeyes’ 2024 national championship run, logging 499 offensive snaps.
Siereveld was named a captain on Saturday along with safety Caleb Downs, linebacker Sonny Styles and wide receiver Brandon Inniss.
Day also said he’s currently confident in about eight players on the offensive line, noting he has a clear top-five with three others ready to rotate in.
He would not go into detail or name starters at the other four positions.
“We feel like there’s five that we’re going to go with here,” Day said. “Then I feel like there’s two or three other guys that we can put in and rotate.”
The other four starters along with Siereveld likely project to be left guard Luke Montgomery, center Carson Hinzman, right guard Tegra Tshabola and at right tackle either Phillip Daniels or Ethan Onianwa.
