Recruiting Outlook: Dead Period Extended Through May 31

Recruiting Outlook is a weekly series on Buckeye Sports Bulletin designed to be your one-stop shop for all news related to the Ohio State football recruiting trail.

  • The NCAA Football Oversight Committee is extending the recruiting dead period through May 31, “due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and concern regarding in-person interaction among prospective student-athletes, institutional staff and student-athletes.”
  • 2022 Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Sierra five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy committed to Texas on Feb. 13, a commitment that is especially significant to Ohio State because it likely means that it ends the chances of the Longhorns re-flipping Southlake (Texas) Carroll five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers, who committed to the Buckeyes on Nov. 19.
  • Ohio State extended an offer to 2023 Waco (Texas) Connally running back Tre Wisnor. The 5-11, 180-pound tailback holds six offers besides the Buckeyes’: Florida State, North Texas, UTSA, USC, Texas, and Baylor. He was named the District 9-4A-II Co-Offensive Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore for Connally.
  • Lehigh Acres (Fla.) Senior four-star tailback Richard Young added offers from Pac-12 powers Utah and Oregon. Young (6-0, 190) is the No. 1 running back and No. 18 overall recruit in the country for the 2023 class, per 247Sports.
  • Chandler, Ariz., four-star wide receiver Kyion Grayes, who holds five crystal predictions to Ohio State, added offers from USC, Auburn, and Utah. Grayes (6-1, 170) is the No. 46 wide receiver and No. 314 overall prospect nationally in 2022, and Arizona’s third-ranked recruit.
  • Charlestown, Ind., 2022 four-star offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin was named one of the top performers at the Midwest Combine.
  • Cordova (Tenn.) St. Benedict at Auburndale five-star defensive tackle Walter Nolen included Ohio State in his top 10 schools. Nolen is rated as the top defensive tackle and No. 2 overall prospect in the 2022 class, behind only Ewers.
  • 2022 Denton (Texas) Ryan four-star cornerback Austin Jordan included Ohio State in his top 10 on Monday afternoon alongside Auburn, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Texas, Texas A&M and USC.
