Early Signing Period: Four-Star QB Devin Brown Signs NLI
Get to know Draper (Utah) Corner Canyon four-star quarterback Devin Brown, who signed his National Letter of Intent with Ohio State on Wednesday.
Height, Weight: 6-3, 190.
247 Composite Rankings: He’s rated as the 56th overall prospect, sixth-best quarterback and the No. 1 recruit out of Utah.
Commitment Date: Brown committed to Ohio State on Dec. 1, 2021.
Other Offers: Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Iowa State, Michigan State, NC State, Northern Arizona, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Texas, UCLA, USC, Wisconsin.
How he did in high school: Brown led Queen Creek in Arizona to back-to-back playoff appearances in 2019 and 2020, and after transferring to Corner Canyon, helped lead them to a runner-up finish his senior year in which he completed nearly 70 percent of his passes for a state-record 4,881 passing yards and 57 touchdowns.
He was named the MaxPreps Utah High School Football Player of the Year in his junior and senior seasons.
Why he committed to Ohio State: Brown had previously been committed to USC since Sept. 19, 2020, but he decommitted from the Trojans on Nov. 24 following a visit to Ohio State for its game against Michigan State on Nov. 20.
While Ohio State was not on the scene for Brown’s early recruitment, just recently offering the signal caller on Oct. 12, they beat out Texas, Ole Miss and USC, who remained in contact with Brown following his decommitment.
“With my decision, a big thing was being a competitor,” Brown told 247Sports. “Growing up my dad would always bring up other quarterbacks and tell me they were better than me. That just made me work harder and my whole life I’ve been working to be the best. I love that underdog mentality. I want to go up against the best in every moment and I want to go compete against the best in college. So I’m going to be a Buckeye.”
Where he fits in for 2022: After the transfers of Quinn Ewers and Jack Miller, Brown will likely be third on the depth chart heading into the spring behind Kyle McCord and incumbent C.J. Stroud. He’ll get the chance to sit back and learn next year before getting the opportunity to earn the starting job in 2023.
