Weekly Recruiting Roundup: OSU Welcomed Campers, Sent Out More Offers

While the 2019 class arrived at Ohio State for the summer semester, Ryan Day and Co. continued to recruit. The Buckeyes picked up a couple of big commitments in the past week and also sent out some more offers.

Katy (Texas) Tompkins 2021 four-star defensive end Tunmise Adeleye (6-3, 260), whom Ohio State offered on May 22, set a visit for June 20-22.

Cincinnati Princeton 2020 four-star outside linebacker Jaheim Thomas, whom Ohio State offered March 30, omitted the Buckeyes from his top seven. He was a top target for OSU with five-star offensive tackle commitment Paris Johnson and four-star defensive tackle target Darrion Henry.

Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic 2020 four-star safety Lathan Ransom listed Ohio State in his final five with LSU, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Texas. Ransom is the nation’s No. 75 prospect and No. 4 safety and Arizona’s No. 5 prospect, per 247Sports Composite.

He has an official visit with the Buckeyes from June 21-23, returning to OSU for the first time since a Feb. 24 unofficial visit.

Texas tight end Blake Smith, who just received his Ohio State offer, included the Buckeyes in his top-10.

Baltimore St. Frances 2020 four-star running back Blake Corum — who made a Feb. 2 visit, following a Jan. 24 offer — set an official visit for June 14-16 at Ohio State.

Cincinnati La Salle 2020 kicker Jake Seibert, whom Ohio State offered May 20, announced his commitment to the Buckeyes.

From the same high school as junior punter Drue Chrisman, he gives OSU its kicker of the future behind junior Blake Haubeil.

The Offers

Ohio State offered St. Louis DeSmet 2021 cornerback Jakailin Johnson (6-0, 160). Johnson is 247Sports’ No. 85 overall prospect and No. 5 corner in the country and the No. 2 recruit in Missouri for 2021.

Ohio State offered Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei 2021 linebacker Raesjon Davis (6-1, 210). Davis is the No. 16 overall recruit and No. 1 outside backer in the nation, as well as the No. 3 prospect in California for 2021, per 247Sports.

Ohio State offered Cincinnati Elder 2020 three-star tight end Joe Royer (6-5, 225) — his 24th. Royer is the No. 907 overall prospect and No. 38 tight end in the country, and No. 33 recruit in Ohio, per the 247Sports Composite.

He and two other in-state tight end recruits — Columbus Grandview Heights’ Luke Lachey (6-6, 220) and Mansfield’s Clay Caudill (6-5, 230) — were worked out by Ryan Day and Kevin Wilson at Thursday’s camp.

Ohio State hosted its Skills/Big Man camp and extended offers to two campers — one who has long been on the Buckeyes’ radar and another who broke out with an impressive performance in front of OSU’s staff — in the 2021 class.

The first went to Dublin (Ohio) Coffman four-star safety A.J. Kirk, the younger brother of former Ohio State safety Mike Doss (1999-2002). The 6-0, 200-pounder is from the same high school as four-star all-purpose back Michael Drennen (5-10 1/2, 187), one of the Buckeyes’ top targets in the 2020 class.

Kirk is 247Sports’ No. 177 overall prospect and No. 5 safety in the country, as well as the No. 6 recruit in Ohio.

The second went to Bowling Green (Ky.) 2021 three-star tight end Jordan Dingle. The 6-4, 230-pounder caught the eyes of Kevin Wilson and landed an offer from the Buckeyes after a conversation with the offensive coordinator/tight ends coach and Day inside the team facility. Rutgers, Kent State and Toledo also offered Dingle at the camp.

Dingle is the No. 410 overall recruit and No. 15 tight end in the nation and the No. 4 prospect in Kentucky for 2021, per 247Sports.
