Six Ohio State Wrestlers Earn Scholar All-American Accolades

Malik Heinselman, Rocky Jordan, Kollin Moore, Luke Pletcher, Kaleb Romero and Sammy Sasso earned spots on the 2020 NWCA Scholar All-American Team as NCAA Qualifiers with cumulative grade-point averages greater than 3.20.

Ohio State has boasted a remarkable 20 NWCA Scholar All-Americans across the last three seasons under head coach Tom Ryan. After leading the country in NWCA Scholar All-Americans in 2018 and 2019, Ohio State ranked second for the 2019-20 season.

The six Buckeyes were among the 178 D-I wrestlers honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) honored as Scholar All-Americans.

The 2020 NWCA Scholar All-Americans who were named represented different 64 D-I programs, and here is the NWCA Release.

Four of Ohio State’s six honorees were also named NWCA All-Americans as top-12 seeds for the NCAA Championships, which were canceled due to COVID-19, while Jordan received All-America Honorable Mention.

“On behalf of the NWCA and our Board of Directors, we are ecstatic to honor the amazing academic achievement demonstrated by this year’s Scholar All-American teams and individuals,” Mike Moyer, NWCA Executive Director, said. “NCAA Division I institutions continue to demonstrate their commitment to academics.”
