Petit-Frere Named Semifinalist for Outland Trophy
Ohio State left tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere is one of five semifinalists for this year’s Outland Trophy.
The Outland Trophy is awarded to college football’s best interior lineman. However, all players at the five offensive line positions are eligible to win the award. Alabama left tackle Evan Neal, N.C. State left tackle Ikem Ekwonu, Kentucky right tackle Darian Kinnard and Iowa center Tyler Linderbaum join Petit-Frere on the list.
In his second season as a full-time starter for Ohio State and his first year as a left tackle, Petit-Frere is a brick wall for the Buckeyes. According to Pro Football Focus, he has allowed only one sack on 360 pass-blocking snaps in 2021-22. He’s also been a significantly better run blocker than a season ago and continues to road grade for running backs TreyVeyon Henderson, Miyan Williams and Master Teague.
Petit-Frere joins five other Buckeyes as national award semifinalists for their respective positions, including quarterback C.J. Stroud, wide receiver Chris Olave, kicker Noah Ruggles, long snapper Bradley Robinson and Henderson.
Finalists for the Outland Trophy will be announced on Nov. 23.
