Oregon State Hires Ohio State’s Kevin Griffin As New Athletic Director

Ohio State’s associate director of athletics for business strategy, Kevin Griffin, is leaving the university to become the next athletic director at Oregon State.
Oregon State president Jayathi Murphy commented on the hiring in a release announcing the news.
“By appointing a leader with a track record in business strategy, revenue generation and marketing, I am positioning Oregon State Athletics for the future as an innovative national leader, aggressively and proactively adapting to the ever-changing landscape of collegiate athletics,” the statement read. “Kevin Griffin is a changemaker with a clear vision for OSU’s athletics programs. As a former student-athlete himself, he is passionate about ensuring that today’s student-athletes have the resources and support to win at the highest levels of competition. I am thrilled to welcome him to Oregon State University and Beaver Nation.”
Griffin, the nephew of two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, was a wide receiver at Ohio State from 1995-98, playing in 32 games and catching a total of four passes for 37 yards in that time.
After his college playing career, Griffin took on many administrative roles in athletics, working with the Cleveland Browns and the Seattle Seahawks and with D.C. United of the MLS.
He joined Ohio State in 2022 and has been with the Buckeyes since then, but now he moves on to a different OSU to take a leading role in the athletic department with the Beavers.
