Women’s Volleyball Ends Losing Streak, Wins Two Straight
Ohio State’s long streak of defeats has finally been broken, as the Buckeyes rallied in resounding fashion over the weekend.
After 12 straight defeats, Ohio State (5-17, 2-12 bounced back with two five set victories against Maryland (8-16, 1-13 Big Ten) and Rutgers (11-15, 2-12 Big Ten).
Ohio State defeated Maryland 3-2 (23-25, 25-16, 25-21, 11-25, 15-12) Friday in College Park, on the back of five Buckeyes with at least eight kills and 10 blocks as a team.
Following a disastrous fourth set where Ohio State had four attacking errors and just nine kills, the lowest of the day in a set for either team, the Buckeyes bounced back in the final set jumping out to an early 5-2 lead that they would never relinquish.
Buckeyes defensive specialist Olivia Hasbrook finished with 20 digs and three service aces. The sophomore now has over 700 digs for career at Ohio State.
It marked the Buckeyes’ sixth five-set match of the season, and Ohio State’s second win in those contests.
In Ohio State’s second matchup of the weekend, the Buckeyes defeated Rutgers in 3-2 (25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-12) in a back-and-forth contest that featured four Buckeyes with over 10 kills.
Both redshirt senior middle blocker Ashley Carr and freshman outside hitter Na’Vea Gauthier set career highs with 12 and 15 kills, respectively.
After Ohio State wins in the first and third sets, Rutgers continued to push back, using key runs in the second and fourth to even the match and force a decisive final set. Ohio State found its footing late behind timely serving and Carr’s final kill, who scored the last three points in a 15-12 fifth set to close out the weekend sweep.
Ohio State hits the road again next weekend with a matchup at rival Michigan (17-8, 7-7 Big Ten) at 7 p.m. on Friday before heading to No. 25 Penn State (14-10, 8-6 Big Ten) for a 2 p.m. contest Sunday afternoon.
No. 4 Wrestling Dominates 42-4 At Chattanooga
No. 4 Ohio State (1-0) was dominant in its first head-to-head matchup of the season, winning nine of its 10 bouts against the Chattanooga Mocs (3-1) Sunday at McKenzie Arena.
At 125 pounds No. 17 Brendan McCrone of Ohio State defeated Ty Tice 4-2 by decision.
Buckeyes No. 9 Ben Davino and No. 1 Jesse Mendez dominated at 133 and 141 pounds, winning 19-4 and 21-6 by technical falls, respectively.
In the 157 pound division, Buckeyes redshirt freshman Landon Desselle beat Cavarius Liddie by fall after 3:40.
Ohio State 165-pounder No. 12 Paddy Gallagher, 174-pounder No. 10 Carson Kharchla, and 184-pounder No. 7 Dylan Fishback all earned technical falls, as the trio won by at least 15 points each.
No. 15 Luke Geog defeated the Mocs’ Kade Rule in the 195 pound weight class, jumping out to an early 15-2 lead before he ultimately won 16-12.
In the heavyweight division, Ohio State’s No. 6 Nick Feldman was a step above Chattanooga’s Ethan Vergara, as the junior Buckeye won by technical fall, 22-5.
The Buckeyes only loss came in the 149 pound division when Chattanooga junior Billy Meiszner defeated Ohio State redshirt freshman Daxton Chase by 10-1 by major decision.
Ohio State will now set its focus on the 2025 National Duals which take place from Nov. 15-16 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Men’s Soccer Drops Season Finale At Northwestern
Ohio State’s season ended short of expectations.
After taking an early lead on a first-half goal by sophomore defender Nick McHenry, Ohio State (6-10-0, 3-7-0 Big Ten) fell 2-1 at Northwestern (8-6-3, 3-5-2 Big Ten) as the Wildcats scored twice in the second half to close out the Buckeyes’ 2025 season Friday at Martin Stadium.
McHenry gave Ohio State an early lead in the 41st minute with a header off fourth-year defender Dyland Onwona-Agyeman’s corner, marking Onwona-Agyeman’s first career point and McHenry’s third goal of the season.
Northwestern equalized in the 59th minute with a goal by freshman defender Andrew Johnson before freshman forward Aaron O’Reilly netted the winning goal in the 84th minute.
Ohio State redshirt senior goalkeeper Max Trejo had eight saves in the loss.
Six senior Buckeyes including defenders Onwona-Agyeman, Nathan Demian, Thomas Gilej, Donovan Williams, midfielder Luciano Pechota, and goaltender Trejo — played their final matches for Ohio State, with Trejo surpassing 4,000 career minutes.
Ohio State, who finished the season 9th out of 11 in the Big Ten, did not qualify for the Big Ten tournament, and its season will end in Evanston, Ill.
