Olympic Sports Recap: Women’s Soccer Ties Rival Wolverines While Men’s Soccer, Women’s Volleyball and Field Hockey Split Weeks

No. 22 Women’s Soccer Ties Archrival Michigan
It was a scoreless affair in the Buckeyes and Wolverines’ rivalry clash.
Led by senior goalkeeper Molly Prichard’s shutout and four saves, No. 22 Ohio State (4-1-2) tied Michigan (3-4-1) 0-0 in a defensive battle Sept. 12 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Despite a scoreless final, the Buckeyes outshot the Wolverines 22 to 13 as Ohio State notched six shots on goal to Michigan’s four shots on target.
Ohio State consistently put pressure on Michigan, leading its rival with a whopping 12-2 advantage on corner kicks, however, it was to no avail.
The Buckeyes continue their three game homestand against Wisconsin at 7 p.m. Thursday before taking on Nebraska on Sunday at noon.
Men’s Soccer Falls to No. 6 Louisville, Dominates Butler
The Buckeyes suffered its second straight loss to a ranked opponent before bouncing back over the weekend.
An early goal gave No. 6 Louisville (5-1) the edge over the Buckeyes as the Cardinals defeated Ohio State 1-0 Tuesday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Louisville forward Chase Vazquez scored just four minutes into the match off an assist from midfielder Bilal Camara — the lone goal of the contest. Before losing to Virginia 1-0 Saturday, the Cardinals had held all opponents scoreless.
Despite the loss, Ohio State outshot Louisville 12 to nine.
Two pairs of two goals pushed the Buckeyes to a 4-0 victory over Butler (2-5) Saturday at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis.
Midfielder Marko Borkovic kicked things off for Ohio State with a goal in the 20th minute, before defender Nick McHenry added another goal just four minutes later. In the second half, forwards Nyle Waugh and Tanner Creech scored back-to-back goals in the 53rd and 54th minute to seal the four-nil victory for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State (3-3) opens Big Ten play against Michigan State 7 p.m. Friday at DeMartin Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan.
Field Hockey Struggles Against No. 8 Harvard, Bounces Back Against Northeastern
Ohio State suffered its second-straight heartbreaking loss in double overtime before bouncing back in the second game of its road trip to Massachusetts.
Harvard (4-0) defeated the Buckeyes 2-1 in double overtime thanks to two goals from forward Martha le Huray.
The Crimson sophomore scored on a rebound off the post with just over a minute left in the first quarter, before Ohio State bounced back with a score by back Katie Fichtner nine minutes in the second period on assists by backs Victoria Kutz and Autumn Kernechel.
Though after three straight scoreless quarters, le Huray flipped in the dagger off another rebounded shot to give Harvard the 2-1 victory 77 minutes in.
Ohio State’s fortunes shifted against the Huskies however, as two goals just before and after halftime bolstered a 2-0 victory over Northeastern (3-2) Friday in Columbus.
Forward Makenna Webster opened the afternoon with a score 27 minutes into the match — her 11th of the season — off an assist by fellow forward Lindsey Roberts. Then, three minutes after halftime Webster sent over a pass to forward Emily Barker who extended Ohio State’s lead to two.
The Buckeyes dominated the Huskies offensively all match long, leading in both shots on goal (10-2) and corner kicks (9-2).
Next up, Ohio State (3-3) travels to Kentucky to take on Louisville Friday at 4 p.m.
Women’s Volleyball Finish 1-1 in OU’s Beavercreek Invitational
The Buckeyes swept their hosts in the Beavercreek Invitational, before losing a close match to in-state rival Wright State.
Ohio State defeated Ohio (2-7) 3-0 — 25-16, 25-19, 26-24 — for its first sweep of the season Friday afternoon.
Outside hitter Reese Wuebker had a career-high 18 kills, while adding 11 digs for her second double-double of the season. Setter Mia Tuman also had 33 assists. The Buckeyes are 2-0 on the season when Tuman averages at least 10 assists per set.
In game two of the Beavercreek Invitational, Ohio State fell to Wright State (5-3) in five sets (22-25, 27-25, 31-33, 25-21, 11-15) Saturday.
Despite the Buckeyes hitting a higher percentage of its shots (20.4 percent to 19.3), a 4-0 and a 3-0 run by the Raiders in the final set gave Wright State the edge over Ohio State 15-11.
Ohio State (2-4) returns to Columbus next weekend to host the Sports Imports Classic, where they’ll take on Virginia on Friday at 5 p.m. and Troy on Sunday at 1 p.m. The tournament will also feature a matchup between Virginia and Troy on Saturday at 3 p.m.
