Both Ohio State’s men’s and women’s teams punched their respective tickets to the ITA Indoor Championships this past weekend with wins over both opponents they faced.

On the men’s side, the No. 2 Buckeyes swept their way past both Oregon and UCF 4-0 in both meetings. Boasting a 7-0 record on the season, in total OSU lost one match in either contest, with men’s doubles pairing Andrew Lutschaunig and James Trotter falling to the Ducks’ Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele.

The highest-ranked player for the men’s team, No. 5 J.J. Tracy, was one of many to sweep his matches on the weekend by beating UCF’s Lleyton Cronje 6-0, 6-3 and Oregon’s Ivailo Keremedichiev 6-1, 4-4 in an unfinished match.

For the women’s team, ranked No. 12 in the nation, wins over Old Dominion and No. 22 Tennessee by scores of 4-0 and 4-2, respectively, punched its ticket to the indoor championships. Fifth-year Kolie Allen was a perfect 4-0 across two singles and two doubles matches for the weekend.

Women’s Hockey Win Streak Up To 10

The winning ways of the No. 1 Ohio State women’s hockey team continued this past weekend, with their streak of consecutive victories now up to 10.

The Buckeyes grabbed a two-game sweep of Minnesota State at the OSU Ice Rink Friday and Saturday, winning both contests by multiple goals.

In the Friday contest the Buckeyes left the least doubt about the game’s final outcome. Flying past the Mavericks 6-2, Ohio State got two goals each from forwards Paetyn Levis and Jennifer Gardiner, with additional goals added by defenseman Sophie Jaques and forward Brooke Bink.

OSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead against the Mavericks during the Saturday game, getting goals from forwards Makenna Webster, Levis and Sofie Lundin in the first period. Minnesota State fought back to make things 3-2 entering the third and final period, but a power play strike from Ohio State defenseman Riley Brengman with less than 10 minutes to play put the Mavericks’ hopes of an upset to bed.

Defenseman Madison Bizal also took home some hardware for the Buckeyes this week, winning WCHA Defender of the Week after recording three assists and three blocked shots over the course of the Minnesota State series.
