Ohio State’s Pursuit Of 2024 Power Forward Aiden Sherrell Heats Up

Ohio State’s lack of frontcourt depth gave the Buckeyes fits throughout the 2022-23 season, and now head coach Chris Holtmann is heating up his pursuit of one of the top post players in the 2024 recruiting class.

The Buckeyes will welcome Napa (Calif.) Prolific Prep four-star power forward/center Aiden Sherrell (6-10, 215) for an official visit on June 8, which will mark the fifth official visit of his recruitment to this point. Sherrell has also visited Alabama, Michigan State, UNLV and Oklahoma thus far.

“I’m going there in June,” Sherrell told 247Sports about Ohio State. “The coaching, I have a great relationship with all of the coaches. I could see myself fitting in that spot with them being in the Big Ten so I want to go see them.”

Sherrell prides himself on his ability to play positionless and has shown the ability to operate both in the post and from the perimeter. Through seven EYBL games, Sherrell averaged 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 55.9 percent — including a 44.4 percent mark from deep.

His play in the EYBL circuit has helped him rise to be the No. 33 overall player and No. 5 power forward in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. On3 lists Sherrell as a center, slotting him in as the No. 4 center in the class.

“Aiden Sherrell has a muscular frame with long arms. His strong base allows him to establish a good position on the block where he is a good area rebounder. He is bigger than you think, and his length plays a big role around the rim,” On3’s Jamie Shaw wrote. “He scores it away from the basket, with three-point range off the catch, and he can score with his back to the basket, finishing over both shoulders, in traffic. He has solid explosion, getting above the rim in traffic.

“He is a good rebounder, especially in his area. He is growing as an out-of-area and offensive rebounder. At this point, he is most effective playing from the inside out. He can push the break off the rebound and attack under control. There is a lot there, great natural tools, and has produced at a high level this season.”
