Ohio State Women’s Basketball’s Big Ten Opener Against Iowa Is Suspended Due To COVID-19

Ohio State women’s basketball’s Big Ten opening game against Iowa, which was scheduled for Friday, has been suspended due to positive COVID-19 tests within Ohio State’s team, according to a press release sent out Tuesday.

“The women’s basketball game Saturday between Ohio State University and the University of Iowa at Value City Arena has been postponed after Ohio State paused all team-related activities due to an increase in positive COVID-19 tests within the program,” the release stated.

This is the third game on Ohio State’s schedule to be impacted, with the first coming in the scheduled season opener against Akron, which was due to problems within the Zips, and a previously scheduled matchup with Saint Mary’s, who were supposed to come to Columbus Tuesday, but that game has since fallen through.

While no number or names have been specified, an Ohio State spokesman told Buckeye Sports Bulletin that the team “had some positives which hit the protocol limit” to make the Buckeyes pause team activities.

The Buckeyes have started the season 4-0 with an average margin of victory of 40.8 points per contest, and currently rank No. 17 in the AP poll.

Ohio State is next scheduled to travel to College Park to face No. 14 Maryland in a rematch of the Big Ten Tournament final on Dec. 23, but that may now be up in the air.

“The status of Ohio State’s road game against Maryland on Wednesday, Dec. 23 is still to be determined,” the release stated. “The program will resume its team activities when its medical staff determines it is safe to do so based on protocols established by the Big Ten Conference.”
