Ohio State, Texas Change Upcoming Home-And-Home Series

Adjust your calendars appropriately because Ohio State and Texas have made a change to their upcoming home-and-home series.

The Buckeyes and Longhorns were scheduled to meet in the 2025 season opener on Aug. 30 in Austin, Texas, but that game has been moved to Columbus. Likewise, the game originally set to take place at Ohio Stadium on Sept. 12, 2026, will now take place at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

The change, which appears on Texas’ official website, was first pointed out by FBSchedules.

Before the move, Ohio State was scheduled to play six road games in 2025, including trips to Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Rutgers and Michigan. The Buckeyes also have an open date on Sept. 6 before they host Washington on Sept. 13.

Ohio State is no stranger to home-and-home series against the nation’s premier programs, as the Buckeyes have upcoming series against Oregon (Eugene in 2020, Columbus in 2021); Notre Dame (Columbus in 2022, South Bend in 2023); Washington (Seattle in 2024, Columbus in 2025); Boston College (Columbus in 2026, Chestnut Hill in 2027); and Georgia (Athens in 2030, Columbus is 2031).

This will be the second home-and-home series and third meeting overall for Ohio State and Texas, as the Longhorns won 25-22 in Columbus in 2005. The Buckeyes returned the favor the following year with a 24-7 win in Austin in a highly anticipated No. 1 vs No. 2 matchup.

The most recent meeting was a back-and-forth affair in the 2009 Fiesta Bowl, when Ohio State overcame a 17-6 fourth-quarter deficit to take a 21-17 late in the contest but Texas scored the game-winning touchdown with just 16 seconds remaining.
