Ohio State Releases More Public Records From Independent Investigation

Six days after Ohio State suspended head football coach Urban Meyer for three games without pay at the conclusion of its independent investigation, the university released more public records on Tuesday afternoon in connection to the summarized report published on Aug. 22.

After Ohio State’s independent board investigated Meyer’s supervision of former wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Zach Smith, who was fired July 23 after allegations of past domestic violence surfaced, it initially released five public documents — Smith’s personnel file and term sheet, Meyer’s employment agreement, a summary of findings and university actions, and a full investigative report.

On Tuesday, Ohio State released 10 more public documents.

• An incident report from the Gainesville (Fla.) Police Department in 2009.
• A case file from Dublin (Ohio) Mayor’s Court after Smith’s arrest in 2013.
• An expense report from Ohio State after Smith’s recruiting trip in 2014.
• An email addressed to Ohio State director of football operations Brian Voltolini and athletic director Gene Smith in 2016.
• A text exchange between Shelley Meyer and Courtney Smith in 2015.
• Handwritten notes from former Ohio State deputy athletic director Michelle Willis with an attached incident report from the Powell (Ohio) Police Department in 2015.
• A divorce decree between Zach Smith and Courtney Smith in 2016.
• An anonymous tip Aug. 19 on Zach Smith’s incomplete rehab stint in 2015.
• Incident reports from the Powell (Ohio) Police Department in 2017 and 2018.
• Courtney Smith’s domestic violence civil protection order filed against Zach Smith on July 20.
