Ohio State Redshirt Freshman Cornerback Ryan Turner Plans To Enter Transfer Portal
Ohio State redshirt freshman Ryan Turner announced Sunday that he plans to enter the transfer portal after two seasons with the Buckeyes.
Turner has played sparingly since arriving at Ohio State, redshirting his freshman season and appearing in only two games this season. Depth at cornerback has been an area of strength for Ohio State, with Denzel Burke, Davison Igbinosun, Jordan Hancock and Jermaine Mathews Jr. all getting significant playing time this season, with Jyaire Brown and Calvin Simpson-Hunt also seeing the field at points.
A four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class out of Hollywood, Fla., Turner was the No. 341 overall prospect and No. 37 cornerback in the class, with Clemson a school that was closely involved in his recruitment along with the Buckeyes.
With Hancock, Igbinosun Mathews all expected back as potential starters and cornerback Lorenzo Styles Jr. in line to take a step after redshirting this season, a clear spot – even as depth – did not appear in the cards for Turner.
He is one of now five Buckeyes to announce their intention to enter the transfer portal, including defensive end Omari Abor, offensive lineman Victor Cutler Jr., safety Cameron Martinez and running back Evan Pryor. The portal officially opens on Monday.
