Ohio State Ranked At No. 2 In Preseason Coaches Poll

The defending national champions are the No. 2-ranked team in the coaches’ preseason top-25 poll. Ohio State, replacing many of the key contributors from last year’s national championship roster, ranked only behind its week one opponent, Texas, in the poll released on Monday.

The Buckeyes’ 20 first-place votes and 1,565 points were second to Texas, which received 28 first-place votes in the poll and had 1,606 points.

Joining Ohio State and Texas in the top ten were No. 3 Penn State, No. 4 Georgia, No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 6 Clemson, No. 7 Oregon, No. 8 Alabama, No. 9 LSU and No. 10 Miami (Fla.).

Outside of Texas and Ohio State, the only other schools to receive first-place votes were Penn State (14 votes), Georgia (3) and Clemson (2).

Other Big Ten schools like No. 12 Illinois, No. 14 Michigan and No. 19 Indiana were included in the poll. The Big Ten’s six teams ranked in the poll were second to the SEC, which had nine teams included in the rankings.
