Ohio State Quarterback Mason Maggs Intends To Enter Transfer Portal

Following Ohio State’s 24-14 loss to Miami (Fla.) in the Cotton Bowl to end its season, the Buckeyes have lost their second quarterback to the transfer portal in under 24 hours.
Ohio State quarterback Mason Maggs announced via Twitter that he is intending to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2.
A native of Dublin, Ohio, Maggs was an invited walk-on for Ohio State in the spring of 2022 and has spent four seasons with the program.
“Playing football at The Ohio State University has truly been a dream come true, and I am so proud to be a graduate of such a prestigious institution,” Maggs wrote in his Twitter post. “I am so grateful for all of the lifelong relationships I have made in my time here. This brotherhood is so special.”
Maggs joined the Buckeyes as a quarterback, but also spent time at running back last season, taking one carry for three yards against Western Michigan on Sept. 7, 2024.
Maggs will have two years of eligibility remaining pending the approval of a medical redshirt.
Mason Maggs is the son of former Buckeye center Robert “Bob” Maggs, a two-time All-Big Ten selection who unexpectedly passed away at age 61 on Oct. 23, 2025.
