Ohio State has yet to even name a starting quarterback for the 2021 season, but bettors are already placing wagers on C.J. Stroud to win the Heisman Trophy.

According to the odds at betonline.ag, Stroud’s 12/1 odds are the fifth-best to bring home the award. He’s behind several fellow quarterbacks in Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler (4/1), Alabama’s Bryce Young (7/1), Clemson’s D.J. Uiagalelei (7/1) and Georgia’s J.T. Daniels (9/1). Stroud is also tied with North Carolina Sam Howell.

Stroud is the only player on that list without a single pass attempt in his college career. He does have one run to his credit, and it went 48-yards for a touchdown.

On top of which, Stroud has yet to win the job as the Ohio State starter. Although he performed well in the spring game, coach Ryan Day has said he is not ready to award someone the position.

Stroud was the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the 247Sports rankings of 2020 recruits, behind Uiagalelei. He was the No. 4 player coming out of California and the No. 42 player overall.

During his senior season at Rancho Cucamonga (Calif), he threw for 3,878 yards and 47 touchdowns in 13 games.
