Forward Alonzo Gaffney Will Not Return To Ohio State, Per Report

On the day after Ohio State brought in a major transfer in Seth Towns, the Buckeyes are seeing a member of their roster leave.

Freshman forward Alonzo Gaffney will not be returning to the program, according to a report by 247Sports’ Brian Snow.

The report says Gaffney is also not likely to be entering the transfer portal, and instead will be looking at the professional options that may be available to him.

Gaffney played in 17 games for Ohio State this season, averaging just 1.8 points and 1.4 rebounds per game, hitting on 13 of his 23 attempts from the field. He did not play after Feb. 20, first being reported as out due to illness before head coach Chris Holtmann said he was unavailable, but would not specify why.

His career high came in the first game he played, a 10-point, eight-rebound showing against UMass-Lowell on Nov. 10.

The first-year forward was a consensus four-star prospect out of Cleveland Brewster Academy, and the No. 50 overall prospect and No. 12 small forward in the 2019 class.
