Ohio State Basketball Legend Michael Redd To Ring Victory Bell For Buckeyes Matchup Against Minnesota

For the second straight week a former Ohio State basketball great will ring the Buckeyes’ Victory Bell pregame. 

Former Ohio State guard Michael Redd received the honors of being the Victory Bell Ringer ahead of the Buckeyes 7:30 p.m. contest with Minnesota on Saturday. 

Redd joins former Ohio State forward Clark Kellogg as men’s basketball stars to receive the honor of ringing the bell. Kellogg did so during the Buckeyes’ game against Ohio on Sept. 13.

A product of West High School in Columbus, Redd played three seasons at Ohio State from 1997-2000, dominating in each of his three seasons with the Buckeyes. 

Redd averaged 19.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.6 steals per game in his time at Ohio State. He earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in 1998, making his way to First-team All-Big Ten honors just two years later in 2000. 

After his junior year at Ohio State, Redd chose to forgo his senior season, entering the draft where he was selected 43rd overall in the second round of the 2000 NBA Draft.

In the NBA, Redd spent 11 seasons with the Bucks from 2000-11 was a one-time All-Star in 2004, also making All-NBA Third Team in the same season. The Columbus native then played just one more season for the Phoenix Suns in 2011-12 before retiring, finishing his career with 19 points per game average. 

Redd was also recently inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the United State’s “Redeem Team” which earned a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing after Team USA brought home bronze at 2004 Olympics in Athens. 

Redd is the fourth Buckeye to ring the Victory Bell Ringer this season after Archie Griffin (Texas, Aug. 30), John Cooper (Grambling State, Sept. 6) and Clark Kellogg.
