Ohio State Adds ‘Buckeye Stripe’ To Home/Away Uniforms

A classic look has officially returned to Ohio State’s home/away uniforms.

The Buckeyes announced on Wednesday that they were adding a silver sleeve stripe, previously called the “Heritage Stripe,” to their primary uniforms.

In a release describing the changes to its uniforms, Ohio State said the ‘Buckeye Stripe’ was evolved to more closely match the color of the helmet.

The silver sleeve stripe isn’t the only addition to Ohio State’s primary uniforms. Ohio State also announced that the “Block O” logo will be at the center of the collar of the jerseys.

Since the silver sleeve stripe was removed from the uniforms in 2006, Ohio State has occasionally donned it 15 times, most often in the College Football Playoff, including in each of its last three national championship appearances.

“These core uniforms – with the Buckeye Stripe first introduced by legendary coach Woody Hayes and strength coach Ernie Biggs – exemplify how Ohio State football continues to build the best brand in the country,” Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork said in a statement. “Woody Hayes’ vision transformed the Buckeyes into a dynasty, and we’re always looking for ways to innovate while honoring those storied traditions.”

The changes to Ohio State’s uniforms will be on display for its first game against Ball State on Sept. 5.
