Ohio State 2022 Quarterback Commit ‘Leaning’ Toward Enrolling For 2021 Season, Per Report

Southlake (Texas) Carroll five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers, the No. 1 overall prospect for the 2022 class and an Ohio State commit, is “leaning” toward enrolling early in order to earn profit off his name, image and likeness, according to a report by Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel.

“I don’t really know, I don’t have a final decision made quite yet,” Ewers said to Thamel. “I’m leaning toward leaving and going up to Ohio, just so I don’t have to deal with UIL (University Interscholastic League) stuff and can get comfortable with Ohio and Columbus and start to learn.”

According to Thamel, Ewers just has to complete one core English class, which can be done online, to graduate from high school early. He would then have the opportunity to enroll early and be eligible at Ohio State for the 2021 season. Ewers’ family said the course should be completed in time for the start of Ohio State’s preseason camp on Aug. 3.

Ewers is currently ranked as the highest prospect in Ohio State history with a 0.9999 on the 247Sports composite. He was ranked as a perfect 1.0000 until July 16, a rating that only one other quarterback – Vince Young – has ever received.

The decision to come to Ohio State is not simply about the opportunity to earn money, but also because of the experience he can gain, according to Ewers.

“If I enroll at Ohio State, obviously I’d be able to make money off the deals, and I feel like it’d be a big advantage of learning the playbook and getting comfortable with the campus and all my teammates,” Ewers said to Thamel. “But if I stay and don’t get paid, I may be able to win a state title.”

If Ewers were to enroll early, he would join a quarterback battle that has a pair of four-star redshirt freshmen in Jack Miller and C.J. Stroud and one five-star true freshman in Kyle McCord. Stroud is currently considered the favorite to win the job, though each player has the same amount of collegiate pass attempts – zero – as Ewers does at this point.
