Highlights: Ohio State Rolls To An Easy Win Over Cincinnati

After a win that left some wanting more against FAU to open the season, Ohio State’s second game of the season against Cincinnati was a massive one, for two reasons. Firstly, Cincinnati was a much tougher opponent on paper, and posed a serious threat to the Buckeyes. Secondly, after that first showing, Ohio State still had things to prove to establish itself as a contender.

Prove they did, as Ohio State dominated the Bearcats for 60 minutes on the way to a 42-0 win that wasn’t even as close as that final score indicated. While the game was filled with highlights for the Buckeyes, we have all of the most important plays here, for your convenience.

Returning to their new under center look early on, Ohio State struck first on this seven yard Justin Fields touchdown carry in the first quarter.

While Ohio State scored early, there was a bit of a lull from the offense after that first score. To fill the gap, Chase Young and Tyreke Smith decided that it was their turn for big plays.

Despite a slight slow start, Ohio State’s offense did get rolling in the second quarter, kicked off by a short touchdown run from JK Dobbins.

And then a much, much longer Dobbins score, to open the lead up to 21.

After another big defensive play, this time from Shaun Wade.

Ohio State struck one more time before the half, to highly touted freshman wideout Garrett Wilson.

After the game, Ryan Day called that pass “top shelf” and NFL caliber, and it’s hard to disagree.

The second half started a similar note, with Chase Young in the backfield once again for his third sack of the season.

A few minutes, Fields found the endzone again, following behind a perfectly executed JK Dobbins block.

With the game firmly in hand, all Ohio State had left to do was preserve the shutout, and preserve it they did with a Shaun Wade deflection that turned into a Tuf Borland interception.

The final score of the game was yet another Fields strike, this time to K.J. Hill for Hill’s first score of the season. Final tally: 42-0, Ohio State.

Ohio State takes the field again next week, when they head to Bloomington to take on Indiana in another noon kickoff.
