Former Ohio State Running Back Trey Sermon Signs With Pittsburgh Steelers

Former Ohio State running back Trey Sermon has found a new home in the NFL, signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year deal after participating in a tryout at their rookie minicamp, according to FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Sermon is now the sixth former Buckeye on Pittsburgh’s roster, joining newcomers Malik Harrison, Will Howard and Jack Sawyer along with returners Cameron Heyward and Cameron Johnson.Â
Sermon, a former third round draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL draft, is now on his fourth NFL team in five seasons. He spent just one season with the 49ers and another with the Philadelphia Eagles — totaling just 186 yards and one touchdown in the span — before finding some stability with the Indianapolis Colts in 2023. He spent the last two seasons with Indianapolis, totaling 319 rushing yards and two touchdowns across 31 games played.
Sermon — who rushed for 870 yards and four touchdowns in his lone season with the Buckeyes to help them reach the 2021 national championship game will now look to kick start his NFL career and make a Steelers team this offseason that currently boasts a backfield consisting of Jaylen Warren, Kenneth Gainwell, Cordarrelle Patterson, Aaron Shampklin and rookie and former Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson.
