Former Ohio State Defensive Tackle Tommy Togiai Aims To Break NFL Combine Bench Press Record

Former Ohio State defensive tackle Tommy Togiai will attempt to break the NFL Combine’s bench press record during the Buckeyes’ pro day on March 30.

The current record is 49 reps of 225 pounds, set by former Oregon State defensive tackle Stephen Paea in 2011.

This year’s NFL Combine is being held virtually due to the pandemic, so Tuesday’s pro day will serve as the only chance for NFL coaches, scouts and other personnel to record individual official times and repetitions.

Togiai has partnered with Ohio State’s LiFEsports initiative in hopes of getting financial donations for every rep he completes to assist youth sports in Columbus.

“Being at Ohio State the last three years, I have loved being a part of the Columbus community and I am grateful for the love and support the community has shown me,” Togiai said in a statement. “That is why it is important for me to do something positive to give back. I want to give back to all the kids in the community that cheered and supported me. I want them to have the opportunity I had when I was a kid to be able to participate in sports and chase their dreams.”
