Former Northwestern Tight End Hunter Welcing Reportedly Commits To Ohio State

Ohio State’s tight end room is expanding. According to a report from On3, former Northwestern tight end Hunter Welcing is committing to Ohio State out of the transfer portal.
Welcing was with the Wildcats from 2020-25, but didn’t make much of an impact until last season. In 2025, Welcing had 28 catches for 296 yards and two touchdowns. Welcing, a 6-3, 250-pound tight end, also has the frame to help the Buckeyes as a run-blocker.
Welcing wasn’t very highly touted out of high school. He was a three-star prospect ranked as the No. 1,167 player in the country, the No. 52 tight end and the No. 24 player from Illinois.
Welcing is the second tight end to join Ohio State this year out of the transfer portal. The other tight end expected to join Ohio State out of the transfer portal is former Ohio Bobcat Mason Williams.
