Caleb Downs, Julian Sayin, Jeremiah Smith Named Walter Camp Player Of The Year Semifinalists

Ohio State has three players included as semifinalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award on Wednesday, with safety Caleb Downs, quarterback Julian Sayin and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith included.
Ohio State is the only program with three players on the list, which consists of 20 from across the country.
Sayin was also named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Year Award.
It’s no surprise to see Sayin on those two lists, with his candidacy for the Heisman Trophy still going strong. He has thrown for 2,491 yards and 24 touchdowns on 203-of-251 passing (nation-leading 80.9 completion percentage) with just four interceptions.
Smith is the team leader in catches (65), receiving yards (862) and receiving touchdowns (10), and is also still receiving consideration for the Heisman, though his quarterback has overtaken him as the favorite on the team in recent weeks.
Downs is third on the team in tackles with 43, three of them for loss, and he has brought in two interceptions as well. But Downs’ impact goes far beyond the stats on a Buckeye defense that has allowed just 7.2 points per game this season.
