Caden Curry Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

Ohio State defensive end Caden Curry earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors for his record-tying performance in the Buckeyes 24-6 win over Washington in Seattle on Saturday.
Curry was utterly dominant against the Huskies, racking up a team-high 11 tackles (nine solo), while routinely wreaking havoc in Washington’s backfield. The senior added three sacks and tied an Ohio State record with five tackles for loss.
A native of Greenwood, Ind., Curry said he initially wasn’t aware he had matched the record but expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches and God for putting him in position to achieve it.
“I didn’t know that, but it’s truly a blessing and I just have to thank the man upstairs for that.” Curry said.
Curry joined Chase Young (2019), Ryan Shazier (2013), John Simon (2012), Antonio Smith (2006), Andy Katzenmoyer (1996), Jayson Gwinn (1993) and Judah Herman (1991) as the only Buckeyes to accumulate five tackles for loss in a single game.
Fellow defensive end Kenyatta Jackson Jr. said he wasn’t surprised by Curry’s breakout, adding that proud to see him shine on a big stage.
“It was very exciting,” Jackson said of Curry’s performance against Washington. “I’ve been seeing it since freshman year, so it’s not surprising, but I’m very excited for him.”
Through four games Curry has already passed his 2024-25 totals, leading Ohio State with 25 tackles (16 solo), five sacks and eight tackles for loss. He has also added a pass breakup.
Curry was named the Buckeyes’ defensive player of the game in each of their last two contests for his standout play.
