Brandon Inniss Says Julian Sayin Is Going To Win The Heisman

Ohio State hasn’t has a player who won the Heisman Trophy since quarterback Troy Smith in the 2006 season, but junior wide receiver Brandon Inniss thinks that streak ends this season with Julian Sayin.

Inniss said that while the redshirt freshman quarterback has gained national attention the longer he continues his impressive performance this season, Sayin hasn’t changed his approach to the game.

“He’s been the same. Julian is Julian,” Inniss said. “He comes in here and he works every day. His head doesn’t get too big. He’s very humble. He’s definitely going to win (the Heisman) for sure.”

After his big game against Wisconsin, in which he completed 36 of 42 passes (85.7 percent) for 393 yards and four touchdowns, Sayin moved into the top three in odds to win the Heisman at most sportsbooks. The day after the game, BetMGM even had him tied for the best odds to win the award.

After the Buckeyes took a conservative offensive approach to begin the season against Texas, they have brought Sayin along slowly, which seems like it has paid off to this point.

Over the seven games Ohio State has played, Sayin is 156-of-195 passing for 1,872 yards and 19 touchdowns to three interceptions. He hasn’t been picked off in any of the Buckeyes’ five games against a Power Four team.

He’s also looking like he could threaten to set the all-time record for best completion percentage in a college football season. His 80.0 percent completion rate would set that mark over former Oregon quarterback Bo Nix’s 77.45 percent in 2023 with the Ducks. But with at least six games to go this season — likely more — Sayin will have to keep up his historic pace to reach that.

Inniss thinks that Sayin will prove to be able to keep up his performance.

“They’ll see it the rest of the year,” Inniss said. There’s all these other quarterbacks up there with him, but he’s different. He’s the best, and they’ll see.”
