Three Ohio State Baseball Players Plan To Enter Transfer Portal

Ohio State pitcher Andrew Edrington, first baseman Steven Cavaco and center fielder Miles Vandenheuvel have each announced that they will enter the transfer portal when it officially opens on June 1.
Edrington’s transfer comes after three seasons with the Buckeyes. He announced the decision via his social media account.
Before joining the Buckeyes, Edrington starred at Princeton High School in Cincinnati. With the Vikings, the 6-0, 200-pound righty set school records for single-season, single-game and career strikeouts while earning Greater Miami Conference Player of the Year and Southwest Ohio Player of the Year honors in 2022.
Edrington then struggled during his freshman season at Ohio State in 2024, pitching just 3.2 innings across six appearances. Although he recorded five strikeouts, he also issued five walks, allowed six earned runs and finished with a 14.73 ERA that was fourth-worst on the team.
After missing the 2025 season due to injury, Edrington showed significant improvement in his return as a junior. He made 17 appearances and logged 17.2 innings, posting an 0-2 record with a 4.08 ERA, the fifth-best mark on the team. Edrington also tossed 21 strikeouts against 15 walks, held opponents to a .275 batting average and picked up one save on the season.
Edrington will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Vandenheuvel will now transfer for the second time in as many seasons after a strong junior year with the Buckeyes, he announced via his X account.
Vandenheuvel spent one season with the Buckeyes after two years at Eastern Arizona, where he hit .297 with 89 hits, 19 doubles, four triples, and six home runs. He also recorded a 2.7 ERA and struck out 16 batters in 15.2 innings as a pitcher.
In 2026, Vandenheuvel quickly emerged as Ohio State’s starting center fielder, despite entering the program as an infielder and right-handed pitcher during his time with the Monsters.
Vandenheuvel missed just one game and started all 54 contests he appeared in, finishing with a .992 fielding percentage — the best among Ohio State starters. At the plate, he hit .206 with 37 hits, 32 runs scored, and three home runs, while also swiping 10 bases.
Vandenheuvel will have one year of eligibility remaining.
After spending just one season at Ohio State, Cavaco announced his intention to enter the transfer portal via his X account.
A native of Huntsville, Ala., Cavaco made just 15 appearances as a freshman for Ohio State in 2026, including 12 starts. While the 5-11, 190-pound first baseman registered a strong campaign in the field with 98 putouts and a perfect fielding percentage, Cavaco struggled at the plate. He recorded just a .130 batting average in 46 at-bats, with six hits and nine runs scored.
He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
