Babb Trusting The Process Amid “Frustrating” Knee Injury

The news of wide receiver Kamryn Babb’s injury setback created understandable concern over whether or not the fifth-year receiver might see the field this season.

Other injury updates surrounding Babb have usually resulted in news of a season-ending injury, but this time around, everyone is expecting him to be good to go here soon.

“Just a little nick, nothing crazy,” Babb said Wednesday. “Kind of nicked it up a little bit a few days ago. Just taking precautions and trying to take it slow, day by day, make sure I’m full go when I’m able to get out there.”

Head coach Ryan Day reiterated earlier in the week that he does not expect the injury to be season-ending for Babb, who has previously suffered three season-ending injuries in his time at Ohio State, and that’s all without having yet caught a pass for the Scarlet and Gray.

Even though Babb is expected to return, he said the process has still been frustrating as he attempts to get back on the field.

“I would be lying to you if I said it wasn’t frustrating,” Babb said. “But I know it’s a part of the process. It’s the game of football. It’s 100 percent, you’re guaranteed to get injured. But like I’ve said in the past, just trusting in Jesus and my God and just going day by day, that’s all I can really do. Trusting the process.”

Up until his injury in fall camp, Babb – who was voted as a two-time team captain and received the Block “O” jersey – showed promise as a member of Ohio State’s receiver rotation.

Even with the impressive number of star receivers that Brian Hartline has in his position group, Babb was standing out despite not seeing the field as often as his counterparts.

“I felt like I was looking really, really well. Very strong,” Babb said. “I was very confident in my skills, making a lot of plays. I made a few plays that (put) in my mind, ‘Okay, I can really play.’ Just making those plays and just looking back on them now, I’m really confident that I belong here and I’m here for a reason.

Once Babb does return to the field – whether it’s sooner or later – he’s confident that he’ll be able to make an impact for Ohio State.

“I’m going to be confident until whatever day that is where I say I’m done,” he said. “I’m going to be confident until that day comes. I’m going to go until I can’t go no more.”

As for whether he’ll be on the field on Sept. 3 against Notre Dame?

“We’ll see,” Babb said. “I would definitely love to, but we’ll see how I’m feeling going into it.”
