Weekly Offer Report: Ohio State Extends Scholarships Out West

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day continued an aggressive start to May by sending out a litany of additional scholarship offers.

The Buckeyes went west for the majority of their 13 offers, with recruits from Colorado (three), Utah (two), California (two), Texas (two) and Nevada (one) picking up offers. One prospect from Kentucky, Louisiana and Tennessee were also proffered scholarships.

Meanwhile, conversations with some of the premier playmakers in the 2020 class heated up.

Catawissa (Pa.) Southern Columbia 2020 five-star wide receiver Julian Fleming set his commitment decision for May 31. Ohio State is among his five finalists, along with Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Penn State.

St. Louis Trinity Catholic 2020 four-star receiver Mookie Cooper planned a visit to Ohio State. The Buckeyes offered the 5-8 1/2, 193-pound playmaker in October 2017.

His Ohio State offer is among 33 offers for the 247Sports composite’s No. 66 overall prospect, No. 12 wide receiver and No. 2 player in Missouri for 2020.

Another elite receiver prospect, Muskegon (Mich.) 2020 athlete Cameron Martinez was paid a visit by wide receivers coach Brian Hartline. The speedy two-way threat is a top priority for the Buckeyes.

In addition to targeting some elite playmakers in the 2020 class, Ohio State extended offers to quite a few elite recruits across the country for both the 2020 and 2021 classes.

Ohio State offered Draper (Utah) Juan Diego Catholic 2020 four-star defensive end Xavier Carlton (6-7, 262), marking offer No. 26 for the pass rusher. He is the 247Sports composite ‘s No. 279 overall player, No. 14 strongside defensive end and No. 2 prospect in Utah. Originally from Modesto (Calif.) Christian, he has been offered by every Pac-12 program and is a Utah legacy.

Ohio State offered Henderson (Nev.) Liberty 2021 tight end Moliki Matavao (6-6, 240) him, which marked offer No. 29 for him. He is a four-star recruit and the No. 86 overall prospect, No. 3 tight end and No. 2 player in Nevada for 2021, per 247Sports.

Ohio State offered Orem (Utah) High 2021 offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia (6-5, 288). The Buckeyes’ offer marked No. 29 for Suamataia, who is 247Sports’ No. 61 overall recruit, No. 10 offensive tackle and No. 1 prospect in Utah for the class of 2021.

Ohio State offered Bellaire (Texas) Episcopal 2021 offensive tackle Cullen Montgomery (6-5, 290), marking offer No. 11. He attends the same high school as 2021 offensive tackle target Donovan Jackson (6-4, 308), who visited April 13 for the spring game.

Ohio State offered The Colony (Texas) High 2020 three-star safety Christian Gonzalez. The 6-1, 193-pounder is blowing up, with an offer from Alabama coming in as well. He is the 247Sports composite’s No. 608 overall recruit , No. 38 safety and No. 83 player in Texas.

Ohio State offered Aurora (Colo.) Cherokee Trail 2021 tight end Sam Hart (6-5, 225). The Buckeyes’ offer was his fifth, with early offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Arkansas and Utah as well. Hart is 247Sports’ No. 334 overall prospect, No. 12 tight end and No. 5 recruit in Colorado for 2021.

Ohio State offered Littleton (Colo.) Heritage 2021 tight end Terrance Ferguson (6-5, 220). He holds early offers from Arkansas, Colorado and LSU, with Georgia showing interest. Ferguson is 247Sports’ No. 333 overall recruit, No. 11 tight end and No. 4 prospect for 2021 in Colorado.

Ohio State offered Lexington (Ky.) Frederick Douglass 2021 offensive guard Jager Burton (6-3, 271). He racked up offers from Kentucky, West Virginia, Purdue, Marshall, Duke, Louisville, Missouri, Penn State, Vanderbilt and Cincinnati prior to Ohio State. He is the No. 320 overall prospect, No. 10 offensive guard and No. 2 recruit from Kentucky in the 2021 class, per 247Sports.

Ohio State offered Fort Collins (Colo.) Fossil Ridge 2021 offensive tackle Trey Zuhn (6-5, 260). He visited Nov. 3 for the 36-31 win against Nebraska. Zuhn is 247Sports’ No. 269 overall recruit, No. 28 offensive tackle and No. 3 prospect out of Colorado for the 2021 class.

Ohio State offered Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian 2021 athlete Ethan Calvert (6-3, 230), giving the linebacker/safety his seventh offer in addition to Utah, Washington, Michigan, LSU, BYU and Colorado. He is 247Sports’ No. 91 overall recruit, No. 8 athlete and No. 7 prospect in California for the 2021 cycle.

Ohio State offered Chattanooga (Tenn.) McCallie School 2020 four-star defensive end Jay Hardy (6-4, 270), who holds more than 30 FBS offers. Hardy is the 247Sports composite’s No. 86 overall recruit, No. 4 strongside defensive end and No. 4 player in Tennessee.

Ohio State offered Upland (Calif.) High 2021 outside linebacker Jonathan Flowe (6-1, 195), who already holds 21 FBS offers. Flowe is 247Sports’ No. 156 overall player, No. 10 outside linebacker and No. 16 recruit in California for 2021.

Ohio State offered River Ridge (La.) John Curtis 2020 three-star athlete Corey Wren (5-9, 170), giving him FBS offer No. 31. Wren is the 247Sports Composite’s No. 774 overall prospect, No. 58 athlete and No. 33 recruit out of Louisiana. Per 247Sports’ own rankings, Wren is No. 430 nationally, the No. 31 athlete and No. 20 player in his state.
