2020 IMG Academy DB Lejond Cavazos Commits To Ohio State

About two weeks since Lejond Cavazos came to Columbus for a two-day unofficial visit, capped by Ohio State’s second one-day camp of the summer, the four-star safety from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy booked a one-way return trip for the next few years.

At the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge on Wednesday from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where Cavazos is camping until Friday, he announced his commitment to the Buckeyes.

The 6-0, 186-pound Cavazos was a priority prospect for OSU in the 2020 recruiting class. Ohio State offered him April 14, 2017, when he made his initial unofficial visit to campus the weekend of last year’s spring game.

Since then, Cavazos remained a top target for head coach Urban Meyer, defensive coordinator Greg Schiano and the staff.

Cavazos came back to Columbus for an unofficial visit the weekend of Oct. 28 to see the Buckeyes battle Penn State in their 39-38 triumph over the Nittany Lions at Ohio Stadium, followed by a return trip for the spring game the weekend of April 14.

After Cavazos’ fourth and latest venture north to OSU at the June 12 camp, a two-day trip in which he and his family exclusively met with multiple coaches inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, the defensive back subsequently took unofficial visits to Georgia and Oregon.

Originally from Seguin, Texas, Cavazos transferred out to prep powerhouse IMG Academy before the 2017 season.

Rated by the 247Sports composite as the No. 197 overall player, No. 10 safety and No. 30 prospect in Florida for the 2020 class, Cavazos fuels Ohio State with early recruiting momentum.

He joins Marietta, Ga., four-star offensive tackle Jake Wray as the Buckeyes’ second commitment for the next cycle.
